On Saturday, February 20th, 2010 the Metro Branch of the EUSPBA will be holding the annual Metro Cup Solo Piping Competition at the Ramada Inn (Formally the Holiday Inn North) in Newark, NJ starting at 8:00 am.
Once again we will have an amateur grade one contest featuring the top player from each of the six branches of the EUSPBA as well as the top players from, the Midwest Pipe Band Association, the Southern United States Pipe Band Association, The Western United States Pipe Band Association, the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario in Canada, and the winner of the CLASP competition that was held in Glasgow this past summer.
We will also have the main event, the Metro Cup Solo invitational contest.
Some of the finest pipers in the world will be competing for this coveted award. This year’s invite list includes such players as Bruce Gandy, Alasdair Gillies, Gordon Walker, Roddy MacLeod, Willie McCallum, Duncan Bell, Alastair Dunn, Glenn Brown, Stuart Liddell, Jori Chisholm, John Patrick, Alen Tully, Angus MacColl, and Chris Armstrong.
One of the main reasons that this premier contest is successful is the support from pipe bands and individuals who buy blocks of tickets in advance as well the sponsoring of prizes. In each of the Open Events there will be prizes of $1,000, 600, 400, 200, 100.
There will also be an additional prize of $1,000 to the overall winner which has been donated by R. G. Hardie & Co. as well as a new Peter Henderson wood solo chanter to the overall amateur winner. The Overall Open winner will also receive a US 50 dollar Gold Eagle coin worth in excess of $1,000. The Metro Cup will offer a potential top prize of over $4,000 and a custom made kilt donated by O’Kane Outfitters.
We need your support more than ever to keep this event successful. All the expenses associated with running such an event have increased so your donations are critical to having another Metro Cup competition. Donations of prize money can be made in honor of your band or an individual.

advance tickets. If you can not attend perhaps you could send a small donation or donate some piping related products for our very popular auction.
